Bringing up and old thread. But, do you have specifics on the Dutchman axles? The site gives so many options. I plan on using 8.8 31 spline with 10 bolt tubes and stock ends.
I ask because of the center pin size difference.

That's even more confusing, as you can get basically any gear set choice on the market, for a 31spline 8.8"... I was curious though, because I really don't know when Ford went to the 31 in the Explorer, but I thought those got 31's from the start, though the Ranger certainly didn't.
Anyway, hi-jacking a nice thread. Sorry, I'm done.

We talked about this in PMs and it's pretty certain, the rear is from a Ranger. It's 100% certain though, it is an 8.8" and since he's modifying, that's the biggest concern. I'd undoubtedly go to 31 spline... which that one might be. He'll have to count it to really know.
I did check and all Explorers did come with 8.8's(all of which apparently got 31's) right up to the 2011 model, when Ford screwed it up with a FWD platform... It took GM years to realize that FWD isn't what America wants, and now Ford is apparently making the same stupid decision GM did in the 1990's, making almost all vehicles wrong wheel drive...
