Default Metal Shavings in Diff - normal?

Hey guys -

2000 SS M6. Has 70k on it. I have no history on the car, so I have no clue the last time, if ever, this thing was cracked open.

Dropped the cover today to change the fluid....how does this look to you all? I know some shavings are normal, but I don't know how to quantify "some":

Magnet, didn't touch this at all. None of them look like chunks - all shavings.

Lube looked good to me, light in color. Wonder if it was changed semi-recently? I didn't see any evidence on the cover, looked it it was never touched, or at least not touched for a long time.

Looks fine for 70K miles, as long as all the metal is fine (no chunks) and not excessive which Your pic is ok just clean it up.

Cool, thanks for reassuring me. No chunks, got it all cleaned back up and refilled. The ring gear looked to be in great shape, didn't see any excessive wear/chips on the other gears (not like I could see much anyway) so hopefully this 10 bolt wasn't heavily abused before I bought it!

Is it more like glitter? If so, it could be one of your axles or axle bearings that are causing that.

I changed mine out last night and the were only a few shavings on the magnet. Way less than what was on that magnet above.

I did mine at 100k, and it had more metal than yours, and a piece of a tooth. I'm at 146k now...still holding together, lol.
