A-20 axle seal on a fab 9"
Has any one come up with a replacement or better seal for a fab 9" axle seal? The A-20 seal kit on mine keeps leaking. I have heard that there is a sealed bearing type, is this true? Is there a better brand of A-20 seal kit to use? any input would be helpful. thanks

There's really only a few kinds of bearings that fit the 1.562 axle shaft. The "A-20" is a BCA or National number, we normally use the American made Timken Set 20. Same dimensions and style. The big issue with the other type of bearings is that they are commonly a ball bearing, which has a tendency to wear the races and leak after a respectable amount of street driving, because they really aren't designed to withstand the side loads. This is where the #20 tapered style bearing does the best job of being a street/strip application and why we pretty much use them exclusively at no extra cost.
These other bearings are commonly found with a o-ring on the OD instead of a lip seal and depending if it is a sealed bearing or not may require the use of an internal oil seal in the housing end. Most Moser axles will come with this ball type bearing if you don't ask for(or vendor makes you aware) the tapered bearing(additional cost) at the time of purchase.
The tapered and ball type bearings have different thickness at the inner race, and are not directly compatible. The tapered bearing is narrower, therefore requiring a longer spacer that sets the brake offset dimension. In this setup you can't put a ball type bearing in place of the tapered style without axle mods. Strange axles use a black sleeve spacer that can be changed if you really needed to.
