Default Any one here have a LOUD REAR!?!!!!!!!!!

I have had 3 different carriers (diffs) and 3 different ring and pinions. My third set of gears and a new diff was just installed last Friday and the lash was set perfectly.
Why do all my rears whine? It sounds like I have a ATI in the trunk or something. I hate it. How do I fix it. I have the stock 10 bolt w/ an Eaton diff and 3:73's.

Please help, I am going crazy, and broke!

I know , You all are going to stay stop puttting $ in that 10 bolt and get a 12 bolt. I have only spent $300 on the rear to date so not too bad. I just wnat to get it to wuite down!

Mine does it even after they rebuilt the rearend. Oh well, hopefully it'll break before the warranty runs out.

Nature of the beast - my 10 bolt has always whined even after warranty "repair" by GM. My carrier is slipping (Auburn) and the pinion is leaking (AGAIN) so I've got a Moser ordered.

From what I hear, I should expect some whine out of the 12 bolt too. That way if it doesn't whine I'll be happier but if it does I'll expect it.

Good one!!! I was going to make a flatulent reference to get peeps to read the thread but then I though that I would leave that up to someone else. I just knew it would be too easy!!!!

I anm so pissed though. I mean new R&P and a new carrier and Im not lying when I say it sounds like I have a damn SuperCharger mounted in the hatch. Maybe I need a 12 bolt!!!!!

Thanks guys

I have precision gear 3:73's. they are so loud at 80 mph on the turnpike I need ear plugs! Tried redline heavy gear oil - didn't work... noise still horrible. I'm probably going to get a 12 bolt, but only with genuine GM gears...

I'm looking at a '02 Firehawk and it's doing the same thing in 6th at about 60 mph. It still has stock gears and rear end, so this is nothing to be worried about then?

2 questons.

1. are the gears you put in brand new or used.

2. did you run a pattern on then and check pinion depth.

it is not normal for a rear to make noise. i have installed plenty of gears in camaros and other cars/trucks any have not had a problem yet. if you rear is whining, there is something wrong. if you are useing used gears, then more then likely this is the reason. once you remove a gear set out of one vehical and install it in another one, it is very hard to get the pattern correct. also there are lots of other reasons why they can make noise, not just the ring and pinion.

My rear on my 02 has never made any noise or whine since new. I even drive and let off the gas and turn off the radio to see if I hear anything and don't hear a thing. Knock on wood...
