Default Locker vs. Spool...

How much streetability difference is there between the two? The car is an M6 and I don't want to be blowing posi's all the time, so figure the locker was best choice, but I do enjoy driving this car alot and do take frequent long trips with it(~250 miles). I figured the spool would be pretty shitty for that, but is there much difference. thanks.

I seriously doubt you'd damage a Detroit Locker. If you take frequent long trips, I'd never even consider a spool, and I'd consider a Detroit Locker a pain too. Now a soft locker type wouldnt be bad. I take it you have a 9"?

If you still drive alot..still would go eaton..
no wierd quirks to deal with on a street car.
i understand they last behind almost anything you would drive that far!

Spool is noticeable in turns with radial tires and a short sidewall.

I have the 31 spline Tractech soft locker and the car will twitch when it locks.

getting a 9" and so that's why I ask. will be behind a 382 AB w/ juice. I'm not one to be worried about the streetability in terms of how harsh a locker is, just wondering if there really is a difference between the two.

PSJ- did you specify you wanted that locker in the rear when you bought it, or was that something seperate?

SPOOL ALL THE WAY!
I too was contimplating this decision a while ago and i said fuq it and got the spool. mostly cause it was cheaper. But when i drove i couldn't belive how over exagerated all the "NO SPOOL's IN STREET CARS" BS was. If you don't have power steering you will ned some guns to turn the wheel. but if you still have power steering it won't be noticable.
There is no jumping around and skipping like everyone says. just some popping noise when you do slow turns.

Chris I had a used Auburn posi in there back in 2000 and it only lasted a season and started to one-wheel at the track.

I always see folks downplaying the skipping of the inside tire when you take turns with a spool ER ER ER ER ER.

Parking lots + spool = crappy.

Seriously, it sucks. My old locker was much better for driving on the street. That was, until it blew.

Maybe my spool doesn't act up as much because i drive around on regular radial tires not Drag Radials.
But, the few times i drove around on ET Drags it was actually better.
