Default Couple of questions on the Ford 8.8?

Hey guys I am looking to upgrade the Rearend Very soon here but cannot make up my mind on a 12Bolt, 9", or the 8.8 Rear. I have been told the 8.8 is a very strong piece so I am thinking of going with that, but I have a few questions that I hope you could help me out with.

1st- How much RWHP will the 8.8 with 4.11s Take away over my 10bolt with 3.42s?
2nd-How much heavier is the 8.8 VS. my 10Bolt?
3rd-Will the 8.8 take 5,000RPM launches on slicks? I am running a Spec stage 3 clutch the X-Pad, and I only go to the track 3 or 4 times a year also.

I only have bolt ons for this year, and plan on doing heads and cam sometime in the fall. I hope you can answer my questions thanks a lot

Dan

from what ive read the 8.8 weighs like 10 lbs more, and it will take about all the abuse you can throw at it. not sure on the power zap though. like 10 or 15 at the most would be my guess.

I would run a 12 bolt for a car that rarely sees the track, and a 9" for a car that sees a lot of track abuse.

yea me too. seeing as he has an M6 i would say play it safe and go for the bulletproof 9". my only reason for going with the 8.8" is that i have an M6 with 3 channel ABS, and the 9" doesnt support 3 channel

The 8.8 will take the abuse. Make sure you get the good carrier, and the 31 spline axles. It won't break...

i just started looking into a new rear end and can get a 8.8 off a mustang for pretty cheap. I was wondering if it is a pretty direct swap or do you have to do a lot of modification? thanks

Mustangs use a pretty different setup than the f-bodies. They use both upper and lower control arms rather than a torque arm with lower control arms. You would only be able to use the center section with grafted on f-body axle tubes....which is what Extreme Chassis does.
