Default Will it last.....?

I'm taking my car to the track for the first time since I got it. I'm wondering what the odds are that the rear end will survive.

It's a 2000 Formula M6, with 4.10s, Nitto 555R 305/35/18s. The carrier was replaced with an Eaton center section when the gears were changed, and it has a DTS cover. Car made 323hp and 333ftlbs on a Mustang dyno a few months ago.

What are the chances that it will make it through the night?

if you dont launch too hard it should be ok. i wouldent do a 3500 clutch dump and expect it to live.

Careful what you wish for. Mine's damaged, and now I'm trying to figure out where ~$3K is going to come from, so I'm limping it along and having no fun. Sometimes when the rear fails, you go straight into a wall and do a lot more damage than the rear.

If you plan to abuse it, save up and get the rear end first. Then you can abuse it all you want.

The answer to this question is, it lasted not quite 2 feet. Pretty sure I stripped most the teeth off the pinion. Looks like I'll be putting in an S60 or Fab 9 this summer.

I saw that happen at our local track to a guy's car, and he had just had a new Richmond ring and pinion installed in his 10 bolt rear. It sheared the teeth right off the gears. Bob

Yes it did. I guess I mistakenly thought the Eaton would be an upgrade from the stock unit that it replaced.

Its china junk. The TrueTracks have a good reputation in 12 bolts and such, and Ive owned one but for 7.5 10 bolts the stock posis seem to have a decent reputation.

I always tell anyone to avoid the thin teeth of the 4.10s. Mine was a stock clutch type 10 bolt and I baby launched it slipping the clutch and went a 13.89 at 101 with a stock 5.7 and a carb back when I ran old SBC engines. Next pass I was going to pull second gear and hit the nitrous but it busted all the teeth off the ring gear.


Guess I deleted the pics, but yea. Was a long night getting the car back to Conroe from Baytown.

If you're drag racing the 10-bolt just isn't a good match for an M6. Glad to hear you didn't hurt anything else when you thrashed your gears.
