Default Hawks 8.8??

Anybody running one of these? Seems like a nice option. Thinking weight/power loss would be better than the other three rears we have to choose from.

You can have a guy named Josh build you an 8.8 for $600 if you provide him the 8.8 center section and your 10 bolt axle tubes. I think what Hawks is charging for that rear is outrageous and if I were going to spend that much, I'd go with a 12" or 9".

2,300 complete with differential is far from outrageous. Who cares what some guy can build one for. Not relevant to the question.

Your average vehicle isn't going to see any gains or losses between all the rear end options. As for the 8.8 it's a great rear end but we get them in the shop all the time to be braced up to survive.

I'm a huge 8.8 fan for the correct application but even they have their limits. Most big power guys change gears multiple times during the season and this isn't with the torque arm abuse type chassis.

The S-60 will always be your best bang for the buck F-body rear end because it survives off it's mass and now with the S-Trac it has a durable differential.

I was just making you aware of another 8.8 option out there that would save you a ton of money. The guy that builds them has been in the low 9's with his, and he's built a lot of them for others, none of which have had any issues.

I think the general consensus is that the Hawks rears are nice but not at all good value for the money. Not to mention a lot of members have had bad experiences with Hawks.

Hawks 8.8 completely defeats the purpose and reputation the 8.8 has as a budget friendly option. And as said above I have also seen a lot of customer service issues. I'll take my business elsewhere and have an 8.8 built for me, or I'll go with one of the more proven options (12 bolt, 9", S60, ect.) if I'm going to spend over 2000 dollars.

Well now, youll find that experiences like that have and are STILL being pushed under the rug. Shame anyone, especially a non-sponsor, is being at least somewhat protected. As evidenced by the ninja edit done in this very thread!

Oh nothing special really.....Cliff Notes: They made a cheap chinese insert but touted it as OEM in their advertising. I off course bought the hype and bought it, and the dimensions were so off it was unreal. When I brought it to their attention they basically said **** off (then conveniently edited the sales ad). When I made a thread here about it, it got a ton of panties in a wad (for what reason I still ain't figured that out), they moved the thread to a private section that you cant see, and I resigned as a moderator. Hawks made sure to rub that in my face afterwards. Bunch of classless jackasses over there. And these aren't minimum wage employees, these are people with the actual last name Hawk, so absolutely no excuse. That's a nutshell. The car community comes first, so I will keep telling it!

Amen brother. Usually the customer makes a thread pointing out something. Then all the troll accounts come out to prop up the seller in question and discredit the one complaining. Not all shops but I know what you are referring to. Its happened to me and happens on here all the time. Reminds me of the tyrant scum running the country and thank god for the whistleblowers

I was interested in the Hawks 8.8 too. But, for the price I could do a 9". I wasn't aware of their customer service issues until now. I'll reserve judgement though as I have no personal experience with them, but will proceed with caution (I do that anyway).

Bc I posted, and it was removed by someone. I know I posted, anyone who can see deleted posts can see I posted and it is deleted, the average user sees nothing. Doesnt surprise me, someone will be along soon to clean this thread up again or delete it all together.

Interesting.

Again, it just seems like a decent option because of the weight and power savings. For someone not looking to launch a 500rwhp car on slicks, I think it would live a long, happy life. Anyone else with real experience?

It's a great investment to have it built for you by someone at a reasonable cost (under 1500) or build it yourself if you have the know-how and necessary equipment (under 1K cost). Spending 2300 is just plain retarded. No one is trying to say that it's not a decent option or that it's a bad rear end. People are saying it's stupid to overpay by such a large amount. Anyone who buys that rear from Hawks is being straight hustled out of their money.
