Need help with differential install
I'm putting in a truetrac in my strange 12 bolt, what is the part number for timken differential bearings? Ive been searching for the past 3 hours and I can't find anything. A link to a build thread would be great too. Thanks

Yes, I've seen a couple videos and write ups. I've bought a dial indicator but I need the get an inch pound torque wrench. Is there a real good write up on how to swap out just the differential? I Can't find a good one, I keep finding ones on everything. I'm not planning on touching the pinion as long as the pattern looks good in the gear compound.
I was looking at the differential and I noticed there is a small amount of backlash in between the helical gears. Is that normal?

Yes thats probably normal. The reason I said all that is because I recently swapped my posi out for a spool and was hoping for a drop and go. Nope. Not only did I have to reshim and repattern, I had to know what it was before so I knew what to shoot for. Time consuming even when you know what you're doing.

Have you gone thru the install yet?
Did you have any backlash related problems between side gears and axle shafts?
I was about to go this route about a year ago and ended up rebuilding my EATON 12 bolt POSI originally supplied by Strange.
I used the metal clutch discs instead of the original carbon fibre and replaced the spider and side gears as well as the spider gear shaft.
Works very well now.

Started yesterday, Im using tighter tolerances this time and it's looking good. I couldn't get the preload with the carrier to more than 10in lbs but that's probably due to the 4.10 gears, I got a backlash of .006 and the gear pattern looks good. Ill finish up today including a new u joint and bolting the rear back up to the frame. Fingers crossed that everything is good.

Install done, feels much better. I think the brakes are dragging a little but over all the ride is much smoother and less noise at 80mph. The 4.10 gears barely wine at all and the drive shaft is pretty quiet. I checked the play in the drive shaft and it's minimal as well as both wheels feel solid with no play in the axle splines. The differential feels great through the turns. I would recommend this setup to anyone looking for something to replace the posi.

Was there a reason you went with the old school steel clutch packs instead of the newer carbon ones??
Better drag race launch lock up??
Supposedly better wear/strength?
Do these 'chatter' more than the carbon ones did, given the same amount (and brand) of limited slip friction modifier?
