Another 10 bolt making noise
So in the past week my rear has started making "squalling" noises from the rear when going right. Im having a hard time deciphering if it's coming from the left axle bearing or the diff itself. Over the past week it's gotten worse to the point where its loud at low speeds. The diff was rebuilt 3 months ago and I replaced the axles and bearings less than a year ago. I just emailed the shop that built the rear so that they can drive it and assess it. I would hate for something to grenade while driving to work at 70 plus MPH.

Just realized that I didn't really ask a question. My question is has anyone seen failures from timken bearings after only a year? Any pre-mature failure of the Moser axles as well? I pulled into the parking deck a few hours ago and I do believe now it's my L axle bearing and the sound of it was nasty as though the bearing is eating into the axle. Might be an interesting 32 mile drive home in about an hour. Sigh ......

Well I made it home last night without incident. I also read through some 13 year old threads this morning regarding rattling...etc.... which describes my situation to the T. Seems pretty common with these Monza diffs. I didn't hear a thing today coming into work today!! I had the AudioBahn sub thumping along with the TSP Rumbler catback droning. Next time it goes out I'm getting a Vette. It's been a good run so far at 302,000 miles.

No Doubt. The only thing that I've done to the engine is I replaced the oil pump (Melling) and installed a double roller timing set. Valvoline 10w40 every 3 to 4k. As for the rest of the car, I replaced the transmission once, rebuilt the rear twice, steering, suspension. I'm not complaining .. better than a car payment.

Solved
Just realized that I never posted the resolution. In this case it was the crush sleeve that had to be replaced ... too much play on the pinion.

Ha ha! I like how you think! Only problem is that I already have a `79 Firebird and `75 Vette. Not sure how many toys the wife is going to be cool with (actually an early Datsun Z might be my next toy) ... plus I'm shooting for 500K and beyond for the TA. I mean if it breaks, I fix it; it's not like the frame is rotting away down here in Georgia.
