The only problem with getting it powder coated is if you have to weld any mounts on there later. We ended up putting wheelie bar brackets and lower control arm relocaters on, and not at the same time. So powder coating would have been a pain. If you go to TSC and get a couple rattle cans of their tractor paint. The paint is way more thick. Works and looks excellent.

makes you think that if GM had spent, oh, maybe $75 more per car they could have put an 8.5 rear in our cars and we wouldn't even be having these conversations.

I come up with $2,918 without going crazy on the options.

People asking $2,400 used are nuts. No fng way....If I'm spending that much I'll spend a few hundred bucks more and get it brand new. I see one - maybe the same one - that keeps popping up in the classifieds. Probably a reason it isn't sold yet. $$$$$$

For reference, 5 years ago, I sold my strange 12 bolt with 411 gears, eaton, ta cover, ABS for 1600. I paid 2100 new in 2004. They have gone up in price.

I still think you can piece together a 9" for less if you go about it right.

^^^^For less maybe, but not much less. Regardelss of what rear you run you still need a carrier, gears, axles, housing, brackets etc.... I don't see much of a price difference anywhere. Middle of the road they all seem to be about 3 grand. Can you save? Sure, but I think you're talking about 2 maybe 3 hundred on a 3 grand rear. If there was a cheaper way to go we'd all be doing it.

Spohn. Same site as you. But I've priced them at a bunch of different places. They always come up about the same. And I'm NOT going to run a spool to save money. This isn't a racecar.

I agree! I would not run a spool for my setup either...i don't care what others say. For a weekend toy/street car that sees little track time it's just not worth it IMO

I would call one of the vendors on here, you should be able to save a few hundred dollars.

I also have quotes from non-vendors here, but you can search and find them. A fbody 9" with pumpkin/posi for 2250.

If it helps any, I have bought and sold several 12 bolt Mosers for around $1600. They suck, not just one but all of them I have dealt with have howled like a full moon bitch in heat. Strange has a hanxs down better product for fourth gen F bodies. Also, Strange axles have long enough registers for hub centric wheel set ups.

My strange 13 bolt with only 5k miles howled like mad as well. Maybe it was the 411 gears in it, but damn. You couldnt have a conversation on the highway anymore

A spool isn't that bad, been driving for 5 yrs on one. Slicks are much more forgiving than radials when turning
enter Section: Eaton Posi - No ABS

So let me get this "kit" on mine & we can line up at Lapeer or Mexico, you down?

I beat the Fab 9 in mine, 4.11s & hardly a peep out the rear. If its really hot like above 90 it'll make some noise. Center section has slight seep since day 1, with true duals its suprizingly quiet! Those are like $4k+ now

The Strange 12 bolt I had I got in 2004. I believe at that point, they might have only been making them for 2-3 years. They may be better today. I followed the break in guide to a T, dumped the oil after whatever amount of miles was required, added two bottles of the friction stuff, etc. It was quiet for about 2-3k miles, and then it started going to crap rapidly. And I only had it to the track 2-3 times and it was 6sp no hard launches.

The 12-bolt always has and will have an issue with gear noise and this is why most vendors would rather not sell them. The 12-bolt just like the 10-bolt can not handle the abuse of a torque arm.

The S60 will always be the best bang for the buck when it comes to rearends for the F-Body. It doesn't have the potential of gear noise the 12-bolt is known to get over time and will not beat up the floor like a stamped nine inch does due to the fact the only way to make a stamped 9" fit is by moving the pinion towards the passenger side and the torque arm towards the drivers side.

Though if you price out an S60 and still need to purchase an aftermarket torque arm our fabricated package isn't to far off on price and comes with a torque arm and crossmember to suit your needs and we give further discounts on other suspension items manufactured in house. So you end up saving a lot in the long run.

Aren't the S60 axle tubes larger than other rears? Therefore raising the rear of the car? My *** end is already a little higher than the front, and already have the heater hose mod.

We ordered our S60 directly from Strange with the pro spool and gears with the drag brake setup. It has 40 spline axles, and their best chrome moly yoke. $3065.00. They said that it has a 5 year unconditional warranty. They said that they didn't care what we did to it. That it would be fixed for free. No questions. They said it was the only rear end with this type of warranty. This was in 2012 though. No noise, plenty of street driving, and still works perfect. Not sure if you guys saw it but you can get a pretty sick cover for it from Strange. Only have a few months left and it sure doesn't look like we will be needing any warranty. Pulled the cover off the other day and everything still looks brand new. No signs of wear at all. Lash is still exactly how came from Strange.
