This is to swap to 4.10 gears in an 8.6 10 bolt, from a 2003 S10 with 3.42 gears, in a 1965 Nova 4dr, with a 4l80e. Its a unique combo haha.

A few people on another forum thought it needed a thinner pinion shim. They also thought I would have nothing but problems with a gearset from Quick Performance. I think I am going to try it like it is and see. Thanks

 

Ok, I figured I would try one more combo before I put the final bearings on the pinion. This was with a .030 pinion shim (instead of a 0.037 shim), 0.006 backlash, and 16 in/lb of preload on the pinion. Do these look better?

 

No, doesn't look better, looks worse.

 

Ok, I might try a 0.033 shim and if it doesn't look better, I'll just go with the 0.037 shim. Thanks for your help!

The reason I tried a 0.030 was because it kinda looked like it was a hard line at the root on the drive side.
