Default Will the ten bolt hold

I know these questions are asked a lot but I am installing pacesetter LT's and a ORY soon and my goal is to run mid twelve's I know it's not that fast but it is my daily driver, I only go to the track about once a month or so. I want a little more kick in the *** . So if I replace my 2.73's with 3.73's will it kill my rear end. You can see my other mods below.

Thanks for your help.

you will be fin as long as you don't run slicks...you can prolly get away with drag radials....especially since you are an automatic

Even with the drag radials , it's going to be iffy at best. If you stayed with street tires ,you'd be ok. I'd advise you to start saving for a 12 bolt.

In an automatic....just run it. Should be fine atleast for a while, just preload the rear before you launch. They seem to last OK in an automatic as long as you dont have a transbrake. I have went through two of them, but it was from wheel hop on the street.

Well if it doesn't last, nothing a credit card and a good excuse (for the wife) to get the 12 bolt wouldn't fix. So I think I will get the 3.73's.

Make sure you do the TA cover and stud bolt (main bearing caps) kit. Fill the rear w/non-synthetic (regular) gear oil. If you can afford it, Moser HD C-clip axles will save you some axle headaches.... Do you have some good lower control arms to eliminate wheelhop? If not, at least buy some good used ones off the Parts FS section. Use poly bushings in the lca's, also. Best wishes. I see 12 second timeslips in your future! WJ

I have had countless mid 11 sec passes with my 10 bolt with A4. There are plenty of people out there running 10's through the 10 bolt. If you are slower than 11.5 and your 60' times are slower than 1.6 then you should be in the clear for a long time. Posi may go, but just replace it with a good one if it does...

I've hear it is hit or miss. So I guess I will find out. Hope it at least last's for a while. Shoud I go ahead and do the posi when I do the gears, it prob. would be easier.

If you have the extra $ go ahead but if not then just wait till it breaks if it even does...

i would say the posi is hit or miss but for a 12 sec car A4, there is no good reason for that 10 bolt to break unless you are cuttin real sick short times like I said...

The auto is so much easier on the rear

It's iffy with the 10 bolt, but at least you have an A4 so it has a chance. If you had an M6 I'd say no 'friggen way

I've hard launched my 3:73 ten bolt on 315 Nitto dr's for two months no problem, no issues. And that's with BMR lca's, sfc's, and torque arm. And through a SPEC stage II M6 car.

You'll be fine with the auto, no worries.

Ok quick question! I also wanna keep my stock rear end, im getting a 2800 stall to give just a little more go. I was going to get a 12 bolt at first but everybody advised me my stock one would hold for all my bolt on's for the time being as long as i dont cam and head it, Heres my question: I still want gear's i decided to buy a stock rear end but from a 6speed because they come with 3.42's, i found one at GM sports in san jose for 650, now...Should i just buy the gears and get it installed sence its basically the same rear end? or should i just swap it? Any help? thank's guys.

Just do 3.42 gears, they will be perfect for what you want right now. I ran 3.42 gears with a 3200, 3600, 4200, and the 4400 stall. Moved to 4.10's when I did the H/C and my stocker is still holding together great. Lots of low 1.5 60's and even some 1.4's. I wouldn't worry about the rear end all that much. But one thing to think about, the lighter your car is the easier it will be on parts
