Kind of hard to say a certain horsepower. It's more how you launch the car and it really matters if it's a M6 or an A4 and what you have for gears and also the wieght of the car can play a minor role. At the end of the season on Nittos I started leaving the line at 3,200rpm on a 150rwhp shot and the rear end did fine cutting low 1.60s most of the day. I'm not sure how long it would last doing that every run though. There are plenty of A4 cars that have run in the mid to high 10s with the stock 10 bolt but it really becomes a gamble at that point.

its always a gamble. i broke mine with a 3600 converter and drag radials. only hp mod was a lid.
the posi tore itself apart and the axles are a little bent. the guy i took it to said he could fix it but it would just break again sometime down the road and suggested i just get a 12-bolt.

I upgraded mine(85 Z28) to 28 splime axles, Eaton, 4.10 ,axle brace and cover and Spohn LCA and Panhard bar. The first set of gears lasted about 1 year and 60 passes with Nitto 555r's that were bald. That was leaving kinda easy. My motor im guessing is putting down around 350hp . The harder you leave the more chance of busting something. I was good around the 1.75 60' times. When I hit the 1.65 60' times,only 10 passes busted the gears.

what will a stock rearend with a better posi and gears handle.
Leave the stock gears in it and you'll probably last a while.
Anything lower than 3.42's and you're begging for an explosion.
