It's the limited slip additive that stinks.

I don't think it is the additive, or at least that is not all it is. Back when manual trannys still ran gear oil in them it would stink also.

Molybdenum disulfide, put in there for the extreme high
pressure lubrication, I think is the stank.

That is one of the most awful smells. It just lingers and sticks to ya.

Sulfur... helps the gear sets break in by removing surface inperfections... I have also heard for leak ID like Marcapton in natrual gas.. I spend all day in gear oil... some brands have different smells, dinosaur VS synthetic.. Im using some stuff rightnow that smells like garlic...

They both stink, but the additive is by far more "ripe". I picked up a bottle that was leaking, and my hand smelled like that **** for days.
