Default Any Tubular K Member owners in here?

If so, which one do you have? Ease of install? Can it be done in a garage? Any install hints will be great.

Pa k-member and a-arms, I have not installed them yet but plan to as soon I get my Incon kit, so it could be a while. I am going to install them in my garage. I will be holding the front of the engine up with a engine hoist, the back of the engine I plan to hold up with some adustable jacks. Should not be to hard.

I know of the extra clearance gained.

But i am still curious of the ACTUAL weight savings. Has any "user" verified this amount?

Hey John, for some reason the ARE K-member combo is not as light as they claim.... I think they have been contacted on that issue.. BUT the PA Performance K-member and A-arms are VERY noticably light. Larry (PAIN) just got his PA set. They are at MTI or just call him. He will tell you.. VERY LIGHT!!

I have the PA chromoly A-arms and crossmember. I don't remember the actual weights now but I remember saying that while the weight savings weren't quite as much as they claimed, it was pretty close. Those factory pieces areHEAVY!!!

I believe the total weight savings on the PA pieces is 44 pounds if you get the version that doesnt accept the front swaybar. I dont know if this figure includes the weight reduction of the stock swaybar as well.
Hope this helps,
Chris

Big John,save your money!!

The weight is in the factory A-Arms and the factort power rack..NOT the K-Member...

Just get a set of PA A-Arms and a Madman Manual Rack..Madman is a great guy and I've talked to him in length about it..Thats what I will do down the road..

you need some equipment to install a k-member..

the motor is mounted on the k-member

i don't have an aftermarket K, but i figured that might help you make a decision on the 'ease of installation'.. i talked to my collision repair man about installing one, and after he explained to me how to take it all apart, it didn't sound like 30#'s would be worth that much work

The PA chromoly is 25.5 lbs lighter than the stock piece. (K-member only, weighed difference with a digital scale) Mine was installed with a floor jack (no lift)

The aarms save 10#, and the kmember another 25-30#. The big weight is in the kmember.

Yes in Chromolly u save 25lbs but I would NOT run a chromolly Kmember on the street

U will need to have ALL your welds recheck once a yr and make sure the CM didnt crack.Steel is the way to go IMO.

Terry u save 14lbs changing the A-Arms
But u save 30+ changing the Power Rack to a Madman rack WHICH bolts right into a STOCK Kmember
So if u take out the Aarms and go to a man rack u save 30 plus about 4 for the pump/lines plus 14 for the Aarms

Thats the way to go and thats what I'll do
But I will run STEEL Aarms...

Take my word for it, that manual rack is not that much of a savings, and not worth it. My steel kmember (not installed yet) comes in around 18#, I hear the stock kmember is almost 50#.

I could be wrong but that doesnt happen to often

Terry u were smart for buying steel..
Lets wait and see what happens to these CM guys after a yr...Can u say reweld, cracks and alot of BS.....

Both pieces would be the best
A Kemeber/aarams and a rack...

Doesnt really matter Terry, with your 375CI,S2X heads and MMS234567879-V12345 Cam have me outmatched..

My car is a tank thanx to the GUT who is driving it,ME

Hell I talk and talk but the truth is I'm cheap
I'll end up removing the power steering pump, lines, cooler and a couple more odds and ends.

Hopefully I'll get down to 3490lbs
Then I'll work REAL hard on getting the car to hook correctly...

I just heard back from Madman racing and they said the man rack with all power steering accessories removed saved 25 pounds over stock.
That with the Kmember/A-Arms(44 pounds without sway bar), front bumper support (21) and lighter battery (20) is 110 pounds lighter than stock in the nose where it counts. That is worth more than a tenth and a mph in weight transfer alone not to mention the reduction (.03 from bypassing PS pulley)
Cheers,
Chris

Actually install is a bitch, you have to drill holes in the aarms for it, and get the car aligned after. If you need every last pound off go for it, but I doubt its worth more than .03ths in the big picture. Hardly worth $500.
