Default Gear size question

With the mods in my sig below, what would be the best gear to go with? 3.73's or 4.10's and why? Looking for the best for at the track. I hear alot of people talking about 4.10's running out of RPMs before the end of a run.

Thanks in advance
Shawn

I find it difficult to run out of gear a 1/4 mile, however you will end up much closer to the redline or you will need to shift into the next gear. 4.10's are definitely a gear designed for track performance, just get a cam and raise your rev limiter if your consern is running out of room.

Keep in mind though as a fair warning-you may not want such steep gearing because of the fact that if you are putting that much more power down, you'll be shifting like a mad man. If you add large amounts of power, either by N2O, Blower, or Bigger Cubes, I recommend looking into 3.73's unless you are 100% sure of yourself while racing and rowing through the gears at a VERY VERY fast rate

Well the plan is to stay stock internals N/A this season but I don't want to have to grab 5th before the end of the track. At the same time I don't want to be turning 7k on a S.I. engine going through the traps. I guess there is a formula to figure this I'm just not quite sure what it is. Would 3.73's actually make much of a difference in 1/4 times over the 4.10's or would it be better to go 4.10's and taller tire?

Just for thought, I put 4.56's in my '99 camaro and love it! If you plan on putting in a cam, just use a 28' slick at the track and you'll be pealing your head out of the seat by the time you hit the finish line. Another friend of mine got 4.11's and now regrets it and will be changing soon to 4.56's. That is just my opinion. Also, my car is a daily driver and on the highway at 70mph i'm only running at 2100 rpm!!

Go with the big gears!

4.10/11's will finish in the top of fourth for almost every application never concern yourself w/ the 5th gear in the 1/4 mile

If this is a track car get 4.56s.
If this is a street car get 4.10s

4.10s. You can always add a bigger tire when you decide you want to break the rear with a big clutch dump and a sticky tire.

so if i get a big cam like the TSP Magic Stick and run 3.73s will the car drive ok on the street. I always hear people say you need 4.10s or higher, is that just for track runners. Mine will rarely see track

hello, i just bought my car with a bunch of mods: wieand intake, lt headers, no cats, borla catback, control arms, sway bars, drag springs with airbag, may have cam? anyway in 4th at 5300 or so im only going 100 or maybe a little more. i dont know what gears it has, as the previous owner only had it a short time and didnt know either. pretty sure im going to go more than 100 in the quarter. im also affraid to shift it over 5500. any thoughts?

Find out what it has That's really the only way to tell, If your afraid to shift over 5500, then thats probably why your only hitting 100 at 5300 rpms.

Chances are youd be able to hear a cam, if not however take it for a dyno or get into the computer and find out what your rev limiter is set at, where your peak power is at. Also even on a 100% stock car-many shift at atleast 5800 during drag races.
