Default 9" vs 12bolt

What is the advantage of a posi 9" over a posi 12bolt?

I am thinking the axles are more likely to hold up with the 9" but the chance of burning out the posi is probably the same right?

Anyone care to share their thoughts?

Thanks

The posis will be the weak point in either...if you plan on doing some big time clutch dumps on sticky tires, don't expect it to hold up.

The true-trac in a 9" will hold up to 700 hp and an Eaton is good to about 600 from what I have seen.

Well I dont mind blowing the posi out once in a while...unless it is bound to hurt other things

but what im asking is...what breaks in these things and how expensive is it usually to fix????

From what ive read, it seems the 12bolt has a better chance of breaking other things, but the 9" is most likely only going to break the posi.

lookin at ~ 700RW here through a t56 and very little
built 408 + 200shot

And I dont want a spool

Strength......

One of the biggest factors for me was seeing people break 12 bolts.(ive seen all kinds, even spools). Im not really into spending 2k just to have it break. Thats why I went with the 9" 35 spline and spool.

Another factor for me was shipping. 12 bolts cost on average 250-300 bucks for shipping. My shipping was right at 100 bucks for my 9". It just makes more sence to me to invest more money in the rear instead of shipping.

For a reference.
My freinds 12 bolt shipping weight was 191lbs
My 9" shipping weight was 199lbs

9" with a posi is lame (even though I have one). Get a 9" with a locker for street/strip and never worry again.

Why is it lame? How bad is the locker for street use? I mean the car will see the track maybe once a month if that...daily driver too...i think posi is better for daily use unless someone can prove me wrong? Is the locker sort of like a posi unit or what?

Posi is better for daily use. I'm on my 2nd posi. Went with one again because I'll be roadcoursing the car now. If I were not doing twisties in the near future, I woulda gotten a locker for sure. For 5K+ clutch dumps at the track, get a locker.

I like the ability to turn corners and such in teh car...I think Ill stick with a posi. Locker would be nice but I have already taken too much streetability out of the car. I think doing a locker would just almost make it not even worth driving every day..
