Default 12 Bolt strong enough?

Hey I gotta 2000 WS6 and I do alot of racing plus it has over 400 rwhp. Ive broken the stock rear with 4.10s twice now so I need a stronger rear. Is the strange 12 Bolt strong enough with 4.10s or do I need to go with a 9" with 4.10s like I was planning. The only reason I was second guessing it is because The moser 9" is $800 more then the strange 12 Bolt. tHanks

Will you be running slicks? Is your car an A4 or an M6? If it's an A4, I say go with the Strange 12-bolt. If you're an M6 and plan to dump the clutch @ 6K on slicks, the posi will let go sooner or later so it's probably best to go with a 9" with a locker or spool.

everything i have heard is that the 9" is about as strong as a rear as you can put in our cars. But i assume you have a m6 and would recommend the 9" because paying for the 12 bolt twice is more expensive than the 9".

Or get a 12 bolt with spool with 33 spline axles and be done with it. I have a moser 12 bolt and will install it soon. Hopefully with red lock tite, and lock washers the TQ arm bolts won't come out. I can deal with gear whine, turn the radio up louder!!

Go with a 12bolt 33 spline spool like mike's02ls1 said. Then upgrade to the 1350 yolk. Should be plenty fine. The only problem with a 9" is how much drivetrain power you loose. And it is pretty much overkill.

A 9" is pretty much overkill. Your better off with a 12 bolt because that will probably hold up just as good and you won't have as much drivetrain loss. Like mike's02ls1 said, just get 33 spline axles w/ a spool setup and you should be fine. If your worried about it go with 4.30s in the rear. That way you'll spin (to a 1.6 60') before you break.

I had problem with the torque arm coming loose at first. I found out there was a small tolerance between the TA mount and the axle. I made a shim to fill the small space(about the thickness of paper) and reinstalled. 8000 miles and no issues. The bolts were coming loose due to the mount flexing from not being clamped.. Once the space was gone I was able to get a "clamp" with the bolt instead of trying to bend the metal to take up the tolerance.
