I'm installing a USA richmond gearset/solid pinion spacer/strange forged yolk and bearings this weekend.Mine was complete from a 6k car I bought used,I was suprised at how quiet it was until a few 1.8X 60' passes. Its ungodly loud on decel and steady speed.Funny thing is,I installed motives in my factory 10 bolt and ran 1.8X 60's also and it whined slightly but not like this freakin 12 bolt.

I have a Strange and the whine was there from the beginning . After the track it was down right redicules it is so bad driving the car was not possible the whine is that intense. May be i am just an isolated case dew to the incredible noise i have. Or two bad set up's that have been done on the rear ?

Dave, I have seen your work on Tims 8.8 housing, nice work BTW. I have a Moser 9" without any bracing and I have gone 1.31 60' in a 3320 lb Camaro with out any problems. I have built 2 12 bolts for APE when they were in business and I had no issues. Maybe it's just the guys setting them up at Moser, I don't know.

Mine has seen only 2 6k slick launches, 2 3k slick launches, and several drag radial launches. It wines on decel but not enough to be annoying. It did not wine at all until after I went to the track. Its not bad but I suspect as I hit more launches itll get worse.
4.10s here.

Richmond 4.33's, full spool. Whines a little from 60mph+, no noise on deceleration. Of course the rear only has 110 miles on it, lol

Man, I was looking to replace my rear-end with a 12 bolt over the summer, glad I read this, guess I'm going with something else now, can't stand whiney noises.

Mine whined slightly when it was new, but after a few launches on drag radials (none better than 1.78 BTW) its very noise on coast/decel between ~40-60, and somewhat noisy on accel at those speeds. By 70mph it gets somewhat quiet again. So needless to say I drive at least 70 on the highways

I have a Moser 33 Spline TA cover Eaton HD with 342 gears with 700 miles on it with several hard launches on the street and one 10 sec pass at the track with Mickey Thompson drag radials. The rear has been whine free from the beginning. I try to listen for any whine and can't seem to hear anything but my exhaust. I had somone sit in the back seat and they could not hear anything abnormal. I guess I just got lucky or I don't have enough time and miles on mine yet?
My old stock 10 bolt with 273 gears was starting to whine pretty good when I took it out of the car a few months back. Three of the teeth were rolled over pretty good and had lots of slop I am sure that is why it made noise.
I forgot to mention that I use Lucas 85W\90 in the 12 bolt.

I put it in the beginning of April 05. Here is a link to the post I posted when I installed the Moser.

Either it's hit or miss with the housing tolerances or maybe they are getting better.

I really dont know! This is way I am inquiring with this thread.
They offer a good product for the price. I know that the 9" third
members I have bought have all been great. Maybe the 12 bolt guy
there is not doing the right thing. I think that we have enough
leverage here to get the answer we deserve. I will place the call
by the end of the week.

Just to keep you guys oriented on this thread, my Strange is as loud as all the Mosers out there. So it isn't just Mosers.

And the more I race it at the track, the louder it gets.

FYI...
