Update: The original gear appears to be a US gear.I used the original pinion shim of .020 and came out perfect on richmonds required pinion depth.I then used the original carrier shims and had .016 backlash as before,I swapped .010 shim over to the gear side and backlash came in at .04.The carrier slide in to loose for my liking so adding a .08 to the
right side got me a required .08 B/L and a tight carrier. The sweet part was after painting the ring gear the pattern was text book on drive and coast, right in the freakin center.Tomorrow I'll tear it down and final assemble. This was to easy,I'm worried now.

I worked at DTS for a while and learned alot. I think that the material might be the problem. Just because most people hear the gear noise after they have broken in the gear in and make a trip to the dragstrip.

Finished to final assembly. The pinion spacer/shim setup took time and came out to .027 to get 12 inch.pds. drag.I used the original 1350 yolk for setup and my God was it warped when I spun it,no doubt from when the driveshaft/u-joint scattered.Setup the carrier and backlash at .008 and checked the pattern again and it matched up from the mock-up,perfect.Put it back together and went for a break in 10 miles. What a difference! No vibration at all,no clunk-clunk-clunks when rolling down to a stop, and no screaming on decel. All I have is an audible whine from 45-55 in 5th-6th,with the radio on its not noticeable.I don't know if it will stay this way but it was worth it in my case because of my other issues besides gear whine.

This has GOT to be material-quality issue. And I have yet to hear a quiet 12 bolt after hard strip passes.

when you have a quality install all should work out...... like i said... always.... always disassemble the rear... then take your time on the "hell & toe" line up
