If you buy the 12 bolt through Moser and pay the extra 100 bux for the 33 spline axles, it comes with 800 lb springs as well as a 10 year warranty from Moser on the axles...pretty good deal if you ask me.

Getting ABS and TCS on any 9 inch is no problem as long as you have a four channel system to start with.

My Moser 9 inch with aluminum center section weighs only 15 lbs more than a stock 10 bolt.

If you have ABS&TCS (ie 4 channel ABS), then get a 9" with a soft locker. I trashed 3 gear sets and a posi over the course of about 2 years before I sold my Moser 12 bolt. Spend the little extra on an aluminum center like Cal said and maybe have the axles star flanged to save some weight. You could get the axles gun drilled too to save even more weight. That should be an indestructible setup.

ok, lets lay out a price then. Say im wanting a 9" rear with the ABS & TCS (since i already have it stock im sure its a four channel) 33 spline axles & a posi rear. How much power will it hold?, how high of RPM launches is safe on it without worring bout breakin it? What would a close to total amount for this set-up run? Not too educated on rear-ends so dont rip me too hard if my idea is shitty. I know i at least want those parts with my new rear. If anyone sees anything else i would need let me know. Im starting to sway away from the 12-bolt.

31 spline axles + soft locker
OR
33 spline axles + reg. locker (noisy)

Stay away from a posi if you plan to run sticky tires. I blew up the spider gears on a 6500 clutch dump on ET Drags. You won't blow up a locker.

i dont think i will be doin any clutch dumps over 3500-4000 in my car. The stickiest tire i will run will be a street drag radial. Its my daily driver & i will only run tires on it that i can run on the street. Will a posi hold up to that? I really dont want to mess with a locker.

Did you order it directly from moser?
This the company I am refering to http://exoticperformanceplus.com/per...ede341aa5ea420

Says on the page in the link above
"The 33 spline axles help you in several ways.
1. Moser gives them a 10 year warranty.
2. The Eaton Posi comes with heavy duty 800lb springs when the 33 spline axles are ordered."

If you're SURE of that.....then just get a 12 bolt with 31 spline axles and std. Eaton or TrueTrac posi. Be ready to spend $2k minimum with shipping and everything.

BTW My2kz28, my Moser came with 800# springs when I got the 33 spline axles. I've seen some 33 spline Eaton's with 400# springs though. Don't know if they came from Moser though.

im pretty sure 1fastWS6 that i wont be doing any high RPM clutch dumps. My friend is helping me learn how to perfect the "controled clutch dump" i think its called. He has been racing for a long time now & is runnin a 12.89 in his very slightly modded 99' Z28.
I figured it would be around $2k, but if its the last rear i will probably buy for it, then its money well spent. Hell its only my daily driver/street racer/every now & again weekend warrior. im not lookin to run any more than probably 450-500RWHP even when im done with mods. Thats plenty for me to be happy & spank most any street driven car in my area.

Got a question on the posi? Which is better, Trutrack or Eaton???

well guys this was a very informitive thread, thanks a lot, I know know more than i ever have on 12bolts and 9in.s

But let me ask you all this....if i wanted to run a combo of both...IE run both DR's and Fattys on the street/track. Does this mean i will have to get a locker? Because i heard they tear up street tires...is this true and what do you do in a situtaion like that??
thanks

Sounds like slipping the clutch a little on a launch..... much cheaper to replace a clutch than the other driveline pieces you can break on a good launch

Yea thats how it works. Im starting to get it down now. And what i have noticed is that my shitty stock tires have better traction launching this way. When i would launch hard i would spin, but now they just chirp & im gone. No more burnin out off the line. And i feel like im runnin fast than before even with a lower RPM launch. Guess its cause my traction is better.
