I was also debating on which one to go with, but after reading this thread I think I am going with a 9". Very informative thread. I was also wondering if the posi unit makes much of a difference i.e. auburn vs. what evr they come with?

Sounds like you have made up your mind but, IMO the 9" is a better rear, I was like you were a year or two back, I was figuring on 450-500 but sometimes your plans don't get to where you want them to, sometimes they go further. The 9" will be there when you are ready to go for more, if you ever do. That will be something that you don't have to worry about if/when you decide to go for more power.

Also, the gears are a breeze to change. I have 3 sets of gears for 3 purposes. I run 2.73 on the freeway/highway, 3.73 when street racing, and 4.56 at the track. It makes a hug difference. Only thing, have something to tune the speedo with if you're planning on doing this.

9"=Good Choice IMO

Breaking in the gears I hear is the key to no noise.

Is anyone ever going to offer a 9" that can use the 3 channel ABS? I do not want to lose my ABS braking, but I'd like to run a 9".

I sent Moser an email, they got back very quickly. Unfortunately, they feel there is no way to do a 3 channel ABS on the 9" rearend. Here's their reply:

Hello,

Sorry but, NO we are not going to make one, there is no way to get the
3 Channel ABS to work correctly and line up right.

Thank you,

Default Are Currie products good?

I've been looking at Currie as a source for 9" rear...I know know they have Stage I-IV rears both 12 bolt and 9" which are customizable...is there any reason NOT to bo with Currie 9" or 12 Bolts? I don't have to but, I've considered giving up the ABS/TC completely.

So if you have a 3 channel Abs system a 12 bolt is the only way to go..... Well out of the two Mfg's of 12 bolts which one is better? Moser or Strange and are they ready to drop in when delivered?

I've heard and read that a Strange housing with Moser gears or Moser housing with Strange gears are the best way to go in 12 bolts. Not sure which one though. I think the latter.

Personally I would swap it over to a 4 channel and get a 9"

well all LT1's that have abs or TCS came with a 3 channel system... we got just a ring around the unit and it detects wheel speeds for both wheels, now how could we swap to the 4 channel?? it would require us to add 2 rear sensors and the harness for it Right? thats why im lookin for a 12 bolt.

How hard would it be to add the sensors though? I've never done it before.

My 9" does great. I have a 31 spline though. I launch at 3500-4500 rpm about every other weekend, AT LEAST, and for 10-15 times a night. I have had it for say 6 months or so, I installed everything over the winter, and no problems yet, knock on wood.
