I'm currently running 85w140 which i used during the break in of my Moser rear end, but am going to change it out for 75w90 Valvoline non-synthetic.......
I think.....
The guy that helped me install my 12 bolt has a bunch of royal purple in his shop and says it is way better, and won't rob horsepower either.
I'd rather do it myself using the Valvoline to save $$$$$....is the royal purple that much better to justify using it???

I was under the impression that Royal Purple was a Synthetic oil. From what I understand from Moser ( I just got my 12bolt ) you don't want that ( I THINK ). They told me any "reputable" brand oil would do fine, but don't forget the Posi additive (assuming you have the Eaton Posi). I've heard nothing but good things about Royal Purple, but it seems that they are quite expensive.

I still have the stock rear but I have used the RP oil for over 40,000 and have not had any problems. I change the oil yearly and the gears look great. You still have to use the posi additive with RP oil.

IMHO it doesn't matter...I've used Valvoline 75-90 and 85-140 and tried Torco synthetic...no problems with any of it with the posi working Yet no change in gear noise either .....I'll probably go back to Valvoline 75-90 regular as it is cheap and available. All this was in my Moser BTW.

It's not recommended to use synthetic due to the Eaton's clutches aren't designed for it. Yes synthetic will work for awhile but eventually it can cause a problem. Just like running synthetic oil in a 4l60E. Run the dino lube,2 mopar additives and be done with it.

I just threw in the Valvoline 75w90.....and that extra 1-2rwhp over the 85w140 really makes the car move now....definate SOTP
Surprisingly, it doesn't whine any more that it did with the thick oil. This may change however, only time will tell.
Although the fluid was fairly new with only 1000 miles use, it was black when I took it out.
