What exactly does this thing do. Ive read where several people on here have taken theirs out, and I would like to take mine out for true duals, if it wont hurt anything. Thanks

I don't think it does a thing in a straight line. Now when cornering hard it helps to keep everything tied together.

I've had mine removed since last summer with no problems but I drive in a straight line %95 of the time.

It has to be for handling, perhaps loading the rearend around corners or something.

I have had mine out since September. I don't take corners hard at all, I have skinnies up front too.

PSJohnnyboy, did you weigh your brace? I did but I don't remember if it was 5 or 8 lbs. I think it was 5.5.

I just removed mine when I installed the 1LE rear sway bar and urethane end links. After looking at it, I don't really see what it does, or what it would hurt to remove it.

As far as I remember, it's a brace for the lower panhard rod (the one that actually attaches to the axle). Under heavy cornering it can flex. In fact, some of the autoX and road racers guys have welded in a stronger brackets because even with the brace, they are getting too much flex. If you think about it ,the panhard is about the only thing preventing the axle from moving left/right from under the car. Under heavy cornering that's a LOT of stress!

I wouldn't worry about it unless you race competitively (on tracks that have corners that is).

Correct.

Jay Billingsley, one of our sponsors, makes a VERY lightweight but VERY strong chromoly panhard rod. I don't know the priceing though. You might give him a call. I have his chromoly LCAs and man these things are SWEET! They are 5 lbs lighter EACH than the Hotchkis LCAs I was running before.

Chrome moly isn't lighter than steel by volume but it is stronger which means you can use less of it to get the same job done (as in using thinner walled tubing.) And that DOES mean lighter.

If i had of known this before, id already have true duals ran. I wonder if a normal mild steel one will do the trick. I dont autox, but i will take an exit ramp pretty hard..

I have been running with !UPB, and with a stock lower.

I just purchased a used Hotchkis lower just to be safe.

I'm not sure about cornering, I take all corners slow.
