Heads/cam/N20. Will I run out of gear in the 1/4 with 4.10s???
I have always been under the impression that if you have 4.10s and spray on top of heads/cam you will run out of gear if you don't run a taller tire like a 28". Is there any truth to this?
The plans I have for my car is a medium size cam, F13 or 14, a set of AFR 205 heads, or TEA stg 1.5 5.3s. All the bolt ons and I am hoping for 430ishrwhp off the bottle. The dry shot I have now is giving me just over 100rwhp and 150rwtq. If I spray the car with 4.10s on top of the heads/cam with a set of Nitto DRs, 275s or 315s, will I run out of gear? I would like to get a set of 4.10s, but not if the bottle would force me to shift to 5th before the end of the 1/4.

i ran 4.10's in my m6 h/c shot car on 27 inch tires and my shift light would come up before i crossed the finish line. best trap speed was 132 mph. that was with aprox 570 rwhp in a 3700 lb car.
i then changed to 3.90's with a 28 inch tire after that and didnt have the problem anymore.

With the stock rev limiter, you'll run out of gear at around 112 mph with 4.10s. I'm guessing you'll be raising that with your heads and cam combo. Still, I'd suggest a 3.90 if you put in a 12-bolt, or a 3.89 if you run a 9" Ford rearend. It's a happy median between 3.73s and 4.10s.

Thanks for these replies fellas.
Yeah, I will probably be shifting the car at 6500-6600 rpm, so that will give me a bit more mph back. I like the idea of the 3.90s in the 12 bolt. I just don't want to have to shift to 5th before the end of the 1320, and I don't plan on running anything more than a 26" tire. Maybe one day I'll get some drag wheels/tires, but I want the car to be able to finish on some 26inchers, cause Nitto DRs is what will be on the car everyday.
Thanks guys.

i dont think you will have to worry about running out of gear with nitto's because you will likely spin enough to reduce your trap speeds where you wont run out of gear.
my 570rwhp car would spin the 27 inch hoosiers if i dint progress my shot out off the line and i had all the suspention you could add to a f-body.
i would say you will run some mid to high 120 mph trap speeds on nittos's. if you get mt et drag radials, you would probably be more likely to trap higher.

if 11.96 @ 119 is your times na and you put 150 to it, you might run out.
i was going 11.80's @ 118 and 10.60's @ 130-132 on a 150 and crossing the lights at about 6700 rpm's with 27 inch tires.

My limiter is set at 6800 rpm.
