Default Building a 9" need dimensions

I have a 10-bolt housing to rob the brackets from and I can take some measurements before I cut it up but does anyone have a better image of the pic at the bottom of this page from the Strange catalog?

OK, so they give you the dimensions to the center of the spring seats. How do you intend to get the angle correct relative to the pinion centerline ?

I'm making a jig for the 10-bolt to sit in that is adjustable for different tube diameters and widths...

I can tell you this, the dimension for housing flange to flange is 59 1/4". Also, I know from experience Moser uses the dimension 2.750 for the axle hangout (dimension from housing flange to axle flange where the wheel surface mounts ie outside) , however stock axles I have measured 2.590. Because of that difference my brake rotors rubbed the caliper mount and I had to shim the backing plates out (c-clip axles - not a 9").

You can do it however you want, but I mounted a 1.5" steel bar through the tubes and pumpkin when I was welding everything up to keep it aligned (in addition to the housing jig)

I'm not really motivated to post dimensions of a part I make since tech info I've posted in the past has been ripped off by people who don't even care to give me credit for my work. Sorry 'bout that.

What I can tell you is that I will be taking dimensions off a spare housing I have and building the jig out of scrap structural steel I got at the local recycler. I will be buying a narrowing jig for alignment and the housing jig will clamp the axle in "real tight" so as to minimize distortion. I may make a press to further straighten the housing depending on how well I can minimize distortion..

I'll post pics once it is done and I have a working axle.

I hope someone auctually makes a housing from a re tube or converted stock ford housing to trully experence what a pain in the *** its going to be...I have access to every tool needed to undertake such a project a still went with a Moser just to save the headache.... will I ever try to make one? Maybe but its alot cheaper and easer to just pick up the phone.... Good luck seriously

I've done it, made my own 8.8. It is a major PITA, and mine was easier because I just used the stock axle tubes.

Now, welding the spring mounts, shock mounts, and lca mounts on 9" tubes, that would be an even bigger pain in the *** !

Overall it definitely is a major project not to be undertaken by the casual mechanic/fabricator. I would have bought the 12 bolt housing myself, however I wanted a rearend lighter and more efficient than the 12 bolt, and at the time no one else was building and selling the 8.8.

I totally recommend the purchased housings in lieu of making your own unless you are a total perfectionist(fool ) like me !

Well, I just picked up a rear out of a continental with disc brakes for $150. It's only 1/2" shorter on each side. Perfect for me. I'm going to rebuild the center section. WE have a local guy that has brackets made up to weld on.
