2.73's to 3.42's
I have had these for a little while they are 3.42's ring and pinon out of a M6 Camaro....2.73's are what i currently have and they are a series 2 carrier i believe im correct...going to a series 3 carrier do i need anything to install these besides the gear install kit...which comes with the carrier shims etc all the good stuff to rebuild the rear end...also is there any downside to going to a different carrier? thanks

Well you need the obvious item that you didn't list, a series 3 carrier a.k.a. new/used series 3 posi unit. They run $300-400
Now, if you also got the series 3 carrier from the person that sold you the gears then you are set.
I've found out that it's only $200 for a Xgear set, so buying new series 2 3.42 gears is actually cheaper than putting in an OEM series 3 gear set.
let me go look up the info I pulled on all this.

The cheapest way would probably be for you to get a used complete 3.42 rear.....unless you can install the gears yourself. Once you add up the 3 series carrier and labor you will be well above what you can pick one up for. You can find a used rear for $300-$400.
The other reason I would reccomend it is that.... you will then have the 2.73 rear as a spare. I had to use my 2.73 (spare) rear a couple of times.

That's what I would do. Like I said......when you start pricing everything it starts looking pretty good. You will probably only get about $50 for the gears if they are used but it will help.

I'm not trying to be an *** when I say this but.....do a search for 2.73-3.42 and read about people's results. There are tons of threads about this swap.

speaking of 2.73 to 3.42 swaps...... i just got done with mine the other day. i bought a rearend out of a 99 m6 from a guy on this forum. 275$ and it only has around 35k miles on it. from a dead stop it feels like a different car (but i dont have a TC) and from a roll it feels like it pulls a little harder. i honestly think you should sell the gears, get a whole rear out of an M6 and throw it in. you will love it!
