Default Mac cover worth it?

Alright, my stock rear has a bad leak that got worse after a trip to the track this weekend. The rearend makes no noises, doesnt clunk, and I only see the track about 5 times a year, and only on nittos. Would a mac rear end cover be worth the money? Im going to stick with the 3.42's, the car only runs high 12's right now, but im gathering parts for a turbo setup.

I have the mac cover. It is a PITA to put on, due to having to remove the phr. Make sure you silicone the gasket and teflon tape the threads on the studs. Other than that not really a bad piece.

Is it leaking from the front? or the cover area? Sometimes the cover flange gets over torqued and it will leak. Quick fix, take the cover off and find a hard flat surface and hammer the bolt holes in the flange flat, get some permatex and snug up the bolts don't go too tight.
Leak from the front, your looking at the seal.
Personally I wouldn't spend the money on a cover.

I put a MAC on my 10 bolt when I bought the car a year and a half ago. It was a very easy install, I didn't have to remove anything. Did it help? I really can't tell you, but my 10 bolt is still going strong after probably 6 trips to the track. However, I run street tires and run 2.05 60 foot times in my 6 speed. Now that I have a better clutch, I'm looking for a 12 bolt.

Sounds like the pinion seal. I had the MAC cover on my 10-bolt and had over 130 track passes with zero problems or failure. You don't need to remove the PHB, but I recommend using the stock OEM gasket for better sealing.

It's a much cheaper cover than the T/A cover and I've seen them side-by-side ... nearly identical thickness. My MAC cover has held up under a lot of punishment, so, I'd say it's a good investment ... easy to install.

Personally I won't put any money into a 10 bolt. Just put that money away for when you have to upgrade your rear after your new turbo setup breaks it up.

12 second car doesn't require a 12-bolt ... they all break under weird circumstances. buy the cover to help firm it up ... a minimal investment until you're ready for a 12-bolt or 9".
