Need advice on Gears Help me choose
Iam look ing to get different gears for my 00 T/A right now i have stock 2.73 but i want to go higher with the mods i have.
MODS: SLP Lid, Ported T/B, Crank pulley, KOOKS L/T Headers, NGK TR-5 plugs, MSD wires, Yank SS 3200 stall,
Should i go with 3.42, 3.43 or 3.73 motive gears I heard that i may need a ring gear spacer I dont know to much about gears so any input and advice would be helpful Thanks

Almost everyone on here is going to say 3.73's but I went with 3.42's because I want to keep my machine streetable and not completely kill my gas mileage. Since I don't have heads and cam yet I sacraficed a lot of top speed by going with 3.42s and would have lost even more with 3.73s, but when the hell should I ever be driving over 135MPH anyway. (My top used to be 162MPH with 2.73's
Since you are a series 2 carrier you are just looking for a GM 7.5" Ring and Pinon gear for a series 2 carrier, unless you just want to buy a new series 3 carrier (usually about $300-400)
For a 3.42:
Motive Gear part # G875342X
Richmond Gear part # 49-0005-1
USGear (Strange Gear) Part # 01-875342X
SummitRacing.com lists them as part # RMG-4900051
jegs.com lists them as part # 836-49-0005-1
also @ jegs.com part # 555-60008
For a 3.73:
Motive Gear part # G875373X
Richmond Gear part # 49-0007-1
USGear (Strange Gear) Part # 01-875373X
SummitRacing.com lists them as part # RMG-4900071
jegs.com lists them as part # 836-49-0007-1
also @ jegs.com part # 555-60009
While you are in there you might as well get the Inner Pionon Race & Bearing, Outer Pinon Race & Bearing, and a pair of Axle Races and Bearings.
When doing all of this you will also need two axle seals, a pinon seal, some gear oil, crush sleve, pinon nut, shims, differential gasket, etc. Get the "delux install kit" usually ~ $200 from anyone, like http://www.thunderracing.com/catalo...sid=256&pcid=67
Thunder also sells the gears you need for a series 2 carrier if you go that route http://www.thunderracing.com/catalo...sid=287&pcid=67
It's typically much cheaper to just buy a rear end from a M6 and swap it with yours, if you really want a 3.42. That way is much easier and cost effective. Just make sure you get a rear end that matches yours in regards to TCS & ABS.
