The caliper is supposed to float but because of the constant changing of the angle of your pads when they ride on the rotor, this creates and angle gap between the piston and the pad causing the pad to flex way out hence reducing good clamping force. Stock rotors warp pretty easy.
Re: ¿Warped Rotars? IMO, it would be less of a headache to just buy new ones. I've heard some people are having luck with rotors from autozone, pep boys, etc. I'm going to give them a shot soon. Mine have been turned several times and warp within 1000 miles even with proper torque on the lugs. The GM rotors are just crap.
Oh yeah, what we mean by turning them is having the surface machined down to a even, flat surface. Not moving them to a different corner on the car. Good luck.

As far as early f-bod's warping..yup..been there.
My 98 (first 5000 batch of LS1's produced) started warping at 8k miles. Had em turned.
Warped AGAIN at 13k had em turned.
At about 18K I had had em replaced under warranty.
I made it a point that other folks were having the same problem. I got no hassles over the replacement.
Car has 28K now..no problems since... <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">
