¿Warped Rotars?

¿Warped Rotars? How can you tell when your rotars are warped? I drove my girlfriends car yesterday. When I break I fell like a bumpy breaking or jerking break motion. This was under normal breaking. I have never felt that in my car but her car has twice as many miles as my T/A. Any help would be appreciated as well as comments on why it is doing that. I'll be taking the rims off tomarrow morning to paint the calipers. Is there anything I should look for when inspecting the rotars?

Re: ¿Warped Rotars? When mine were warped, if you were traveling at high speeds and started to break the steering wheel would vibrate. I don't know about other symptoms, but that is what I noticed.

What could have caused the rotors to warp? Could they have been defected or was it the way they were used? Like I said before this hasnt happened to either of my birds.

Re: ¿Warped Rotars? I have 15k miles on my 01 and just had mine turned. The key to helping (note i said help) the rotors not warp on these cars is the make sure the lugnuts are torqued properly at all times. I put mine on at 100 ft lbs and so far mine havent warped, even though ive put some nasty panic stops on them.

When I took mine to the dealership to have them corrected under warranty I was at about 14,XXX miles. The service manager told me that the rotors (among a few other things) were only warrantied up to 12,000 miles. But he would correct the warped rotors under warranty anyway. If this is true, I guess it will depend on the service manager

Re: ¿Warped Rotars? There were issues with some LS1 rotors warping on earlier model cars. You will probably have a difficult time in any case getting it fixed under a warranty since they will write it off as a "consumable" item.
Pulsing/jerking on braking sounds exactly like warped rotors. You can either get them turned if they aren't to thin already or purchase some new rotors.
If you buy new rotors stay away from cross-drilled rotors - if you want that look you need to spring for the bear, etc. which have the holes cast in.

Re: ¿Warped Rotars? Hmmm well her car has over 20,000 miles so it seems like I'll probably get stuck buying new ones. SO how does rotating them fix the problem exactly since they'll still be warped no matter what directiong they face?

Re: ¿Warped Rotars? Don't forget that they may not actually be warped, you may just have a "HOT" spot on them and a quick lathe turning will fix them up, don't simply go out and buy new rotors, check it out first!! <img src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Re: ¿Warped Rotars? Well I guess I'll take it in to the dealer and see what they have to say. If they suggest that I just rotate them should I have them do it or go to some Brake "speicialty" place?
Colonel: No it doesnt work on laptops or at least I dont know how. You have to use the numbers pad that is on the right hand side of regular keyboards. <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">

I let the dealer know at 5000 miles at 6000 I brought the car in for oil change and they turned the rotors and put the pads back in everything has been fine since! <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0"> I am now at 20555 not a problem yet! <img src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" />
