It's had a HD eaton posi and GM Factory 3:73's in it for about 1,500 miles on MT ET Street Drag radials with a MAC support girdle ... A4 with a Yank SS3600 TC. I've punished it real bad daily. I mean I launch hard and hit 2nd nearly busting the rev limiter ALL the time ... about everyday. No signs of weakness and it was set up right by a well-known performance shop (NLP).

If I keep it away from the dragstrip, how long do you think it will last me before breaking the ring gear, or spinning an axle? As an A4, it's putting down about 400RWHP to the ground.

 

Set up properly theya can live behind an A4 in the 9s. For how long that's hard to tell. You have a 12 bolt listed on the way in your sig so why the worry?

 

Yeah, but Strange has posi units back-ordered and I've been waiting since it was ordered on 11/17/2005 and I was told last week it will now be mid-February ... thinking of cancelling the 12-bolt because I'm getting frustrated. That's why the post about my 10-bolt. I'll prob go ahead and continue to wait. I could save a lot of cash by keeping my 10-bolt with the HD eaton posi and GM factory gears.

Then again, I'd be sick to my stomach if my 10 bolt broke after I cancelled the 12-bolt order .

 

Could you go with a spool or something else? That is a long time to wait. Besides a spool would make the rear stronger. Like I said a factory rear CAN last a while behind an A4 but they are all different. I think your best bet would be to wait for the 12 bolt. If nothing else once you get it you won't have to worry about it anymore.

lose the 12 bolt and get a 9". Ive seen a regular cast iron strange 9" last a full season in a car that was deep in the 8's

 

I was first going to do a 9", however, after looking into it more, I decided that a 9" is not a very good choice for a 99% daily driver. I did come REALLY close to going the 9" rooute.

 

Thanks everyone. I've decided to continue to wait on the 12-bolt. The money was the big question, however, I've got a little extra coming my way which will cover the cost without putting more on my credit card. And I can recover some cash for the 10-bolt when I swap.
