Default What's the Best Diff. Option for High Power and Cornering??

I'm looking into a moser 9" rear and my car is mainly a DD and I'll do some occasional autoX events. I'm running 725rwhp as of now and I'm shooting for 900rwhp in the future. My car is set up towards cornering and handling. What diff will give me good drivability, smooth engagement out of turns and still be able to survive at the strip on slicks with 900rwhp? Is there any out there that will do all this? Right now I'm considering the true trac BUT many have told me not to even think about bringing it to the strip on slicks w/900hp. Bottom line, I don't want to invest all that $ to have the diff blow up on me at the strip...or not have good street/cornering manners.

Ok, so I did some research: true trac rated @450hp $500, gold track rated @ 650hp $800, detroit locker rated @ 800hp $450, triple track listed only as 12bolt and had no rating $1250. So now it looks like I'm far exceeding the true trac and gold track @ 725rwhp shooting for 900rwhp. Looks like the only option is the D locker. But I've heard they are nasty coming out of corners... Anybody else?

Did some more research and everyone seems to hate the detroit locker for DD and cornering... Still up in the air.

Street cars make bad race cars and race cars make bad street cars... you have reached an area of comprimise... do you REALLY need 900hp? maybe but if you do then its time to just deal with the fact your gunna have a trade off...besides with 900 HP maybe you should start drifting....

Bottom line is that the car will be my DD for another year or two so I can't do the spool. May just have to do the true trac and forget about 6Krpm dumps on slicks for now. BTW, do most drifters run a spool? That stuff is awesome but I can't afford tires @350 a piece.

I know they wouldnt be able to use thing like a gold trak or triple track because there a traction control diff...I think they have a limited slip of some sort im not to into the import drivetrain thing....

I would check with someone like Sam Strano. It looks like you might not be committed to the 9" yet, and since RR or AutoX seems to be the genre you are after one of those racer types could advise you on the best differential/rear for your power levels.

I think you should post this question in the "Handling" section.

The Trans Am series boys are mandated to run lockers and they seem to get around turns OK with less power than you plan to run. But you cannot drive like that in the street, and you've stated that you could not put up with the clicking/knocking of a locker. I would probably run the Gold Track and dial back the power (even more so at a prepped track on E.T. Drags/full slicks). BTW; what trans are you using to hold that much power??

Also, drag racing and road racing do not mix well together. Even if you could get the whole drivetrain dual purpose (you're seeing how hard that is), the suspension system is totally opposite between the two disciplines.

Maybe you should consider having a seperate 3rd member setup for the strip, since you will be swapping on slicks, it will be a pain but swap the 3rd member to a 3rd member that is setup for a spool or detroit locker(not sure if you will be able to use the same axles or not, you'll need to look into that) but then have a gold track or true trac for your DD and autox... just a thought, I know of a guy here in town that has a seperate 3rd member with a full spool that he swaps in for track days.

yeah, that's definitely something to think about since I'll only run the strip a few times to see what times it will run.
