Default Moser 9" Install

I havent started putting in the new Moser 9" in my 02 Z yet, but I am a little curious about the 3" exhaust clamps that everyone talks about for the mounting the rear swaybar.

Has anyone done this to there car and exactly what is involved

Let me know what you think.

When you take your stock clamps off, you will see that the 3" replaces the factory 2.5". The clam shell half that bolts to the 3" clamp I hit with a hammer in the middle to spread it out enough to fit over the 3" bolts.

What about painting, what all needs to be painted? Also, what needs to be pressed in and does everything that needs to be pressed in come with the rear end? What are the brake backing plates? Are they needed for cars with disc brakes?

I also heard that all the bolts for mounting the 3rd member etc werent included, anyone happen to have the bolt size & thread & # of bolts needed? Trying to get everything needed for the install bought before I get it and get my day planned out to take it somewhere to get everything pressed into place so I can do the swap at night time.

You need 3/8" / 24 nuts for the center section

i posted the directions they give you on here...

https://ls1tech.com/forums/gears-axles/447034-instructions-moser-rearends.html

they arnt the best directions in the world, but it shows you some things.

also, you'll need to bang on the trans tunnel some, and also just above the rear on the "back wall" of the back seats..

its not a perfect bolt in, but its nothing that hard to do.

whats up Brent
yeah i am going a 9" after the problems i had after the gear got put in the 10bolt i decided why spend another 500 to fix a 10bolt when you can buy a 9" for just over 2K and not have to worry about it.
i might be at the open house along with Zach...i need to go to Chicago in the morning and then i have to get the car back together.

Too bad I had not known about your 9" before you bought it. I could have got you one for under 2k. All new.

i actually put mine back on lastnight... i use a large washer, then a lockwasher and then the nut.. i have it tight enough that the lockwasher is flat, but not tight enough to dimple my axle tube...

btw, put it up loosely on both hangers, THEN put the endlinks in.. easiest that way...

also, make sure you dont have the brake cable on the wrong side of the swaybar... i was almost done lastnight when i realized that, and had to take it off and redo it.. lol.
