Default Good gears for an M6

I have read the endless debate of 3.73 to 4.10's. Well right now my rear end is making really bad noises which I think is being caused my bearings or the crush collar. To make a long story short I was looking at getting gears and a rebuild just can't decide what gears. My car has 106,000 miles I am going to put in heads cam and spray and I was wondering if 4.10s would rap out too fast or if 3.73 will give me more top end. I mainly race on the highway at 60 rolls but I do also launch from dig and 30 rolls. Any advise would be greatly help on my decision.

ive had both in my cammed m6 ta, i liked the 410's better. I think that from a 60 roll the 373's would be better though. IMO

I'd recommend the 373s for DD and roll racing. As for me I'm going with a 310 in my 9".

I got 4.11s and like them although at times I wish I had 4.22s.

I really am not going to daily drive the car as much or not at all but I have some of the bolt ons and I just want gears that I am going to happy with whenever I do the big mods later in time.

I had 4.10s in my M6 for a short while (before the gears went FUBAR and required a full centersection rebuild). Going from 3.42s to 4.10s was nice - it eliminated some of the dead spots in acceleration, and made everything a whole hell of a lot more fun. Just remember that no matter what you do to a 10 bolt, it's a rolling pile of junk, and chances are pretty high it's going to break sooner rather than later with steeper gears in it. If I had known how painful putting 4.10s in my rear - twice - and paying for labor - twice - and paying for the cleanup/rebuild of the rear - twice - I'd have saved my money, left the stock 3.42s in, and gotten a 12 bolt with 4.10s later down the line. Hell, I could damn near order a 12 bolt with all the goodies for the money I've sunk into the toothpick, I mean 10 bolt in the past month. And, I wouldn't have to worry about blowing it up.

I would leave the rear end alone normally but it is making noise and I have had some mechanics telling me it is going out. I was really worried about breaking gears so the 3.73's will be a thicker gear so I am swaying their direction. Oh and streetracing is bad but I am still going to do it.

I hope you didn't go back with a stock aluminum driveshaft. Aluminum is for beer cans as somebody once stated. Depending on the cam you go with and racing from 60mph I would recommend 3.73s. As far as top end, I bury the speedometer past 155mph at 4,700rpms and I have 4.10s.

4.10s are the highest I would go if you plan on leaving 26" tires on there. 4.33's and especially 4.56's really limit your top speed in 4th gear. I shouldnt even have to say to not race in 5th or 6th.

In an M6, 4.30s are money. I was hesitant cause I DD my SS all over the place (highway, city, etc). I would not for the life of me change my gears to anything else other than those 4.30s. Definatly the best gear in a slightly modded M6 car that Ive seen.
