Gearing affect on gas mileage
I have 3.42's in the 10 bolt now, when I upgrade to my dana 60 in a few months I want to go with 4.10's. What kind of pain will this cause at the gas pump? Its stock right now, and usually gets 20 MPG mixed driving with a little burnout here and honda woopin there. It dont get too over-concerned about MPG but with gas being too damn expensive and this being my DD at the moment, I need to consider the options. Thanks

I actually picked up about 60 miles to a tank by switching to 4.10s. I figure it's because you're shifting to a lower gear, like 6th, at a lower speed. I know I'm in 5th and 6th gear now when driving to work than I was before the 4.10s went in. Cruising at 55mph on the interstate, I got about 200 miles before the gas needle hit the 3/4 tank mark.

only place that you will see a loss is if you do a lot of highway driving in 6th gear cruise'n at 70+..... because all around town you still have enough gears that you're not driving at like 4grand all the time in 6th or anything.
i went from stock 3.42's to 3.73's....im picking up my new 9 inch tonight and it's got 3.89's in it...regaurdless....i didn't notice any difference in city MPG. that's with my little TR224 cam too. actually every "mod" i've done to my car hasn't ruined any of my MPG....i still get about 16-19 depending on the week city and about 26ish on the rare occassion that im driving on the highway for an entire tank
