Default Exact procedure for installing 9" axles

I'd like to know if anyone can help on the order of putting the axles in for my 4 channel car. IE what to put on axles first, or on to housing first. Just asking makes me feel dumb, but I want this done right.

Select the correct axleshaft
add Backing plate(ensure it is for the correct side)
add bearing
add bearing retaining ring
Install oil seal in housing
Slide the correct axle assembly into the housing

Thats correct. Was it not already on the axle shaft?

That's what I figured. I'm just trying to make sure this is installed correctly. The instructions from Moser were pretty vauge. And another dum question, what keeps the axle from walking out? It's simply pressed in, right? Or is it the backing plates pressed to the axle witch keep the axle in place? I wish there were illustrations of this install. Sorry for beating on this dead horse, but I have little knowledge of how this axle works, and I know 9" rears are used in a lot of applications, so installation minus reluctor rings should be the same.

I just got most of this cleared up from Speed Inc. My axles were machined to fit my reluctor rings, we just have to transfer them ourselves. Now I just need this stuff pressed on and await my new Driveshaft so I can break this rear in. Thanks for the help so far.

It's really the bearing on the axle. I guess also the backing plate once it is bolted up to the housing.

The order above is also what we used on my 4 channel 9" Moser axle for my 1998 Z28. First you need to have ABS reluctor ring pressed on, then the backing plate goes next (make sure it's facing the correct side and for the correct axle, *it just sits loose so no pressing), then the bearing (make sure it's facing the correct side), and last the thick press ring. We actually used the press ring to press on the bearing. Apparently, it's easier to press them on one at a time.

Here's a picture. You can't see the thick press ring because it's inside the housing end.

No ABS = No reluctor ring and no sensor...correct??

Does the backing plate slide over the bearing?

1) Correct

2) I recall my buddy Ryan putting the backing plate on before pressing the bearing on the axle.

Make sure you put the right backing plate on the right axle before pressing the bearings on! They are both side specific and I made that dumb mistake and I thought I'd never get it fixed because no one around here could pull the damn bearing back off to switch the backing plates. Learn from my mistake. FYI
