just bought 9 inch,need opinon's
i just picked up a strange 9inch from a friend that wrecked his car.he has 410's in it,but im thinking about going with 430's or 456's.my car is a cam only with all the bolt on's soon to be heads and cam.im also throwing in a 100 shot too(soon to be more)
im running 26" tires right now(275/50 15's MT ET ST's)
from what i read i think upping the tire size does the same as upping the gear.am i right?
should i stick with the 410's and go with a taller tire or go with the 430's or 456's?

Just the opposite, a larger diameter tire effectively gives you a higher ratio, like 3.70 instead of 4.56 for instance. The larger the tire the fewer the revolutions to go the same distance as a smaller tire.

What are you trying to do with the car? Is it a stop light to stop light car or a strip car? With heads, a cam, 100 shot, and a clutch with 4:11s and a 26" tire you will probably have to shift into 5th gear in the quarter. Running a 100 shot with what you have listed for a street and strip car you would be better off asking if you should run 3:73s or 3:90s. Also like bigdsz said what you had heard about tire size is backwards. If you have 4:11s with a 28" tire is kinda like having 3:90s with a 26". The other thing you have to start thinking about with a numerically higher gear is traction. I have 4:11s with pretty close to the same set up you have and I usually don't get any traction until 1/4 of the way through 3rd gear on the street. I would hate to see what would happen with a taller gear.

i 'm with blue 01ta,on the spray especially you will be spinning her at the top end.i would keep the 4:10s and get a 27"or 28 " tire.on motor you will probably be o.k but on spray i think you will be out of gear.
