Default Is this normal for the Trans AM???

Ok ever since I bought my 99 t/a it has always made a slight noise in the rear. I thought it had been my tires but I just put new tires on and the noise is still there. The noise is like a wool wool wool wool noise. Cant really hear it on the freeway just at slow speeds 5-40mph. I know t/a's are known for road noise and I was just wondering if this is normal. Thanks

If you don't know when the fluid was changed last it wouldn't hurt, if nothing else it would eliminate it.

Could also be a bad u-joint or your pinion angle might be off. Is the car lowered? Adjustable torque arm?

no its not lowered nor it has an adjustable torque arm...I have no idea when the oil in the rear was last changed. Do you think its a good idea to do so and what weight and brand of oil do I use?

could be :
tires, depending on make and how much psi ur running

Is it the stock rear end ? maybe the previous owner did a gear swap and they howl .

My rear end howls from 55-70 with my gears..

my tires are new, my old tires were still good I just changed them because I thought they had a bad spot in them. New tires and still same noise nothing has changed. Im running 29 psi in the rear as well. I just changed my rear oil too and still the noise remains. It does still have the stock rear and stock 323 gears I believe. At 70 mph my tach is running around 2100-2200 so that makes me believe there stock. Do you have any other ideas of what it could be??? Thanks for your help

It is probably a bearing and changing the rear end oil will not fix it. You need someone to narrow down which bearing it is and replace it. Or replace all of the bearings (might want to just do a new higher ratio gearset while you are in there).

If its not getting louder, don't worry about it.

Check/change the oil and move on.

I have the same noise at low speeds after the read end is warmed up... Especially when turning slow with a load on the drivetrain (throttle applied). I had my rear end taken apart by a friend who knows rear ends... Couldnt find a thing, no extra play in the bearings or such... So dunno. My first thought was a axle bearing but dunno.
