I had used 4.10's installed a while back, and two passes down the track... and they whine more than a french guy in a cheese factory.

Any secret potion to cure my problem, or am I gonna have to pay to play? I don't go to the track often anymore.

A temporary and cheap fix is to run a real thick weight gear oil, it will quiet them down some. Or a loud exhaust, it fixes ALOT of problems. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> Good luck, Shawn

I have heard of saw dust being used to fix everything from a loud rear end, to transmission slipping to low oil pressure. I heard it was an old trick that used car dealers would use to get rid of cars with problems.. althoguh it reduced the life of the component dramaticaly

I thought I read some post about redline having a super heavey something like 90/240 weight of gear oil..and thought he said that helped a lot.
I had zero luck quieting my richmond 3.73..tried everything,dynamatted rear of car like three layers in places..tried the heavier amsoil think it was 80/140 or so..no help ,even took off my hotchkis lower control arms and panhard and sold my random tech torque arm thinking that stuff was transmitting the noise.I finally just got rid of the richmonds and went back to the 3.42's until I get a 12 bolt.Maybe try that real heavy redline.

I'd look into the Ratech solid collar, I think what is happening is that your backlash is opening up.

I run 85/140 with my 9"/4.10 and it helps a bit.

what brand is best (e.g., Is Georgia Pacific worth the extra $$$)?
what wood works best (Is it true that Pine doesn't last and that Apple gives off a funny oder after 5,000 miles)?
should I pressure treat my saw dust or use an additive like Thompson's water seal?

Hey guys , let's not go against the grain here. Everyone knows there is always a way to spruce up a diff. Maple I can answer this once and for all. Cedars a way to do this, ash long ash you fine grind the pine to get rid of the whine..
