Those in the know recommend a 3.73 for a N/A car. If you are boosted, they recommend a 3.42. But you have a 2-series carrier, so you need to buy a thick gear. Under no circumstance should you use a thin (3-series) gear and a spacer. You are just asking for trouble.

 

Just got my car back with 4.10s.....holy friggin difference. You have an A4, so I'd go with 3.73s.
