4.10s wont fit in 99+ cars???
Whats up everyone, i was looking to order some 4.10s for my 99 Z28. its a 6spd w/ 3.42 rear. I was looking on summits site and they said the richmond 4.10s ring and pinion part no. RMG-6903221 wont work for the 99 and up 3-series carrier because of the factory torsen positraction unless you buy a special split paddle block kit. is this true? I called summit and they said it wont work, but i have never heard of this. i will call Richmond tomarrow and see what they say, but id like to hear from you guys in the meantime. thanks for the help.

Summit was right the 99 up Torsen diff uses a rectangular shapped paddle to hold the axles/c-clips in, instead of a round pin like older cars. With 4.10's the paddle will hit the teeth of the ring gear and you won't be able to get the cross bolt in. Now you can buy the 2 piece paddle kit that will work with higher(numerically) than stock gears. Or during reassembly you can spend 5 mins. with a grinder and remove what material you need to from the paddle. And when grinding it the required amount of material you must remove to make it fit will in no way compromise the paddles ability to do it's job or it's strength. unless you go ape **** and turn it into a tooth pick.

awesome thanks guys. ill probably end up grinding it down, but just wondering how much does that kit cost. is it real cheap, or do they charge an arm and a leg for it?

Only thing you need to do is file the block down. I use a 4 1/2 grinder and a flap disc. Only takes a minute or two. You only file a small portion of it.
