Default When is it time for a new rear axel?

Other than snapping an axel,,is there a "point" where i should change my axel to a 12 bolt? How do i know when its time to change my axel? Im budgeting my H/C package now, and need to know if and when i need to change my axel,,,as you know,,they aint cheap!

Your a 6 speed with mods, its time. Here is a pic of what I did to mine with street tires. I also bent a stock driveshaft before this happened.

all depends on how you drive your ride. Most H/C cars will need a 12 bolt ot 9 inch if they take it to the track, especially a m6. Forget about the 12 bolt and get a 9 inch. They come out being the same price if not cheaper because of shipping. 12 bolt one piece, and 9 inch 2 pieces.

If you stay away from the track for awhile you may get by for awhile, I broke mine on the street in stock form. I beat the hell out of it when I first got it.

For a rear end look up EPP they are in Indiana and have the hook up with Moser, and they will price match, and is a shop with great customer service. Just ask for Bob.

I would just start setting money aside for it, because it is inevitable. Then use your 10 bolt until it dies (don't worry, won't take long ) then install the 12 bolt/9 inch you have been saving your pennies for.

I actually did it on a run at the track. I was on KDWS street tires. I felt it kinda pop while heatin up the tires, but figured it might have been something else inside the car makin noise. I launched , cut a 2.1 60' & it felt funny all the way down the track. When I let out of it crossin thew line it popped really loud & started clunking.

I actually drove it another 2 months before it got so bad I didn't feel safe driving it. When we opened it up that is what we found. My only mods at the time were lid & no cats. Stock clutch & stock 3.42 gears also.

They are just really weak in our 6-speed cars. An auto guy might get a little longer outta his but it will eventually go too.
