Default Spool guys come in!

Here is the deal, I am wondering how bad the spool is while driving on the street. I am worried that I will go thru posi units with my set up that will be in the car. It should be around 850rwhp. The car is far from a daily driver, but I do take her out on the weekends and go on a few small road trips with it. I'll be running a 28inch mt sportsman on the rear which should help alot with the soft side walls. But I am wondering about you experience with a spool on the street.

Just fine, but I wouldn't recommend daily driving it. Hard on the axles on tight turns.

I pulled a trailer around in my truck for work. 1995 s10 355/th-350, spool . Daily Driven in the rain and never had a problem . I ran 275/60/15'S in the rear 28'' . 165sr15's front. Its only tight roads and U turns that can be difficult. Driving around town I never noticed it . sadly I sold the truck for the ws6. What a workhorse

You're indeed going to want to go with a spool with the power that your car possesses. I wouldn't worry about driveability on the street, I've driven quite a few spools on the street without any problems. Bob

iv been running a spool now for 3 year daily driving no probs, only time you know its in the car is when you pull in a parking lot or drive way at slow speeds

From personal experience I can say that a spool is completely unfit for daily street driving. Turning is horrible, cornering behavior of the car will be most awful, tires will get chewed up... Your 28" tires will absorb some of the roughness, but still...
Great choice for your drag car, but if you take pride in your car's handling and streetability a spool is just not an option. IMO

Yeah, its not bad at all. It's a little nerve racking at first but you learn how to drive with it. I drive mine all over the place too, rain and all. PLus its great on a brand new parking lot because you can make S-shapes while driving the car and makes this great squealing noise

I like mine, its really not that bad and you get used to driving it so that it wont make to much noise and be skidding all over the place. Plus i even have all weather tires on mine and it really isnt bad at all, btw i Daily Drive mine. Next up is getting some Drag radials so the tires will slide a lot more while turning.

Stickier tires will grab more and make it worse on the street. The tires will grip harder and actually start to hop a little as the axle shafts load and unload from torsional stress and energy build-up.

Doesnt that only apply if you heat them up and for a track setting? i was told that if you put a drag tire which has less tred on them then an all weather tire they will slide much easier then a tire that is designed to get traction in normal driving conditions and also that has a much more aggresive tred pattern.

In the rain and hard cornering they will not grip as well, but they are still a softer compound and will grip better in most regular low speed conditions.

isnt that where you would need it to slip is in hard cornering? cause thats where the posi would come into play?

think so, how bad is it for the car when it starts to hop the tires in sharp corners like that?

Im talking about low speed tight turns, like parking, slow right turns, your typical daily driving stuff, that is when a spool is worst.
When I say hard cornering I am talking about on ramps at high speeds, real handling stuff. Where the softer sidewall and such of a DR hurts cornering.
