Which is truly faster?
It all comes down to the driver and that is about all there is to it. Well if you put a converter and slicks(to both cars)in an auto its gunna make a hella difference.
I hope I didn't just contridict what I just said.

As far as ET though, an A4 with a good converter is very difficult to beat.
A4= track
A4's can run 12.0's at 111mph
M6's can run 12.0's at 114 mph
more mph makes them quicker on the street(top end)
but for track you cant beat a A4
It depends.With traction,at the strip for example,auto's do really well.An auto's e.t. will be good realitive to their trap speed.An M/6 & an A/4 might both go 13.3x, but the M/6 will trap 106/107 & the auto will only trap 103/104.From a highway roll in two otherwise equal cars,the M6 will pull away from an auto.

Good example. As a matter of fact I have a time slip around here of that exact scenario.

I trap 124 to 125 in good weather..... who says A4's dont have a good top end?
Yanked A4 vs M6 in a free way race = Easy money when your packing a TP4400.
I'll take the Auto anyday. Street OR track.
However, a good high stall torque converter (at least 3500 stall) can give an A4 a huge advantage in low end and midrange torque. This translates into killer launches in the 1/4 and a big improvement over stock from a roll. At a roll from lower speeds, a big stall A4 can be competitive, but at higher speeds (e.g. race 80 - 130 mph), the extra rwhp of the M6 will win out.
M6 = broken parts on launch = my 17.5 HP Poulan with 42" cut is faster than my car right now.
A4 = don't know yet, but supposed to be less likely to break with a built tranny.
