Did I get screwed ?
**** and I'm left wondering. I have now gotten my tranny rebuilt and the shop it is at now is saying that the cause is an improper install of the converter that caused the tranny to go out. On top of that, the converter that they gave me back is not the stock one, not to mention that it is crap and locked up as well. I realize that when I add performance parts that I run the risk of messing up something in my car, but that is why I take it to professionals to get the job done. And more than that, I make enough stupid mistakes of my own, so I don't need to be running around literally paying $$ for other peoples mistakes. My question here is what do I need to know to come to the conclusion of whether or not the first shop screwed me? Can I do anything about it?
Thanks,
Kevin
P.S. - If you can answer any of the above Q's or provide me with any new ones that I might need to ask of the shops, please let me know.
Also, I'm not trying to take these people for their money, I just don't like the idea of getting screwed without the KY and paying them to do it!
I'm not sure what they mean by improper install of the converter, unless they damaged the pump during install.
I have heard of cases where there were problems with the snout (or overall) length of the TC being too short to properly engage the pump, which could eventually cause damage.
If you don't fully seat the converter and then bolt it up, it will break the front pump. When I seen this happen the car wouldn't even move when put in any gear. Don't know if that is an "always like that" situation though.
Please, anybody, chime in! Like I said, I am still in the learning process of the trannys, and I am essentially clueless. Any, and all, help is greatly appreciated. Like I said earlier, I'm not out to screw anybody over. If my tranny going out is my own fault, so be it, I was and still am willing to face the consequenses, but if they messed up when putting on my TC, then why did I bother to give them money in the first place? What do I need to look at to be able to determine the answers to my questions? Please give any advice that you might have.
Thanks,
Kevin
BTW - I have almost all the bolt-ons, but I do not have H/C. My tranny is more than capable of being able to hold the little bit of power that I have added to it. This car has also NEVER seen nitrous and is still running the stock 3.23 gears w/ only nittos.

Be sure to inspect the converter. If the tranny blew while driving, you may have contaminated the converter.

Thanks, but this is already being taken care of. That is one of the few things that I have picked up already.

Was any fluid leaking perhaps? Maybe they damaged the front seal and it leaked some/most of the fluid out.
From what I understand, if the converter is not installed properly, the car will not even go into any gear pretty much immediately. (and destroy the front pump I believe).
