Default Changing my Rear fluid, need help

I am wanting to change most of the fluids in my car very shortly. The trans fluid, rear fluid, and a coolant flush. But, the rear fluid change is a little confusing to me. What weight should I use and do I need that limited slip diff. additive? I have a 2000 Trans Am, 6-speed with the stock 3:42 rear. Does this rear need the additive? What is the best fluid to use for maximum performance? Also, what trans fluid should I use for best results.

Yes the rear needs the additive for the posi clutches and use 75w-90, on the tranny get a good name brand Dexron 111 Mercon fluid dont put any synthetic in it!

Stock Torsen units do not need additive. If you got
an Auburn, then yes, it wants the whale oil. There
is some urban legend that a heavier non-synthetic
diff oil will improve the torque biasing limit of the
Torsen but nothing authoritative I have seen, to
prove it.

Nothing wrong with putting synthetic ATF in the T56. I have Mobil 1 ATF in my trans, and its been fine. Better lubrication and longer fluid life never hurt anything.

wow, two completely different opinons on what to do about both the rear and the tranny. one says i dont need additive the other says to use the additive. one says no synthetic, the other says synthetic. WTF

You need to know which style of diff chunk you
have. That will clear up the rear end. I have no
opinion on manual transmissions.

the rear end will be pretty easy to know if you got an auburn cause the only way would be thru a stage 3 setup from slp, and easy way to know is what color are your stock shocks... if theyr orange then you got a torsen, if therye blue and yellow you got an auburn. and for the trans a lot of people out here in so cal use the royal purple max gear. horsepower tv put that oil in both trans and diff and picked up i think like 8 rear wheel hp and 12 lb ft of tourque. so i think that oil would be my first choice if i had a 6 speed

Its just a trans am, not a WS6. I highly doubt its got any kind of SLP option. So I'm pretty convinced its just a normal torsen diff. So does that mean, I dont need the additive? I can just put in some Royal purple oil and be done with it? I've always assumed I would use Royal purple. I'm just wondering what weight to use. 75-90? or should i go lighter/thicker
