I was reading Nov 2006 Camaro Performers magazine and saw they had a setup for the stock 10 bolt 4th gen Camaros that is suppose to add strength to the rear end. It's a rear end girdle and bearing cap stud kit. Says it adds strength also with an accessible drain plug and refill plug. Claims this setup is good for 450rwhp and is an alternative to buying the 9 or 12 bolt. It's a real nice looking aluminum girdle that requires the rear end heat shield to be slightly trimmed to fit correctly. Other than that it seems like a direct bolt on. All in all it looks like a decent setup. For under $200 for all parts it might be worth it. The source is found at worldwidecamaro.com. Part # 721605 for girdle and #721609 for bearing cap stud kit. Any feedback to this article would be appreciated.

i read the same mag and the cover and stud kit will make it stronger but....... many people on here still breat their 10-bolt's anyway. its really a luck of the draw and how your driving style is. no stick tires is a plus. im going to buy this set up and put 4:10's in so i hope it works for me.

The 10-bolt has a number of weak points, this addresses
one (but perhaps one of the less common) of the failure
modes (bearing cap flex leading to gear tooth contact
shift).
And I paid well under $150 for my cover if I recall.
With no trimming.
Yeah, it's an alternative. But I bet nowhere do they
have the huevos to say, an equal or superior one.
I hate magazines that think all they have to do is
recycle vendors' marketing material, to make a tech
article.

I saw another mag article about beefing up a 10 bolt for around 550 bucks, it had different things you could do such as ringpinion, yukon axels, tougher gears, and a new cover...etc. I have not seen this girdle yet, but I know for a fact that there are 10 and 11 sec guys with moded 10 bolts that hold up right.

If your car is a 6 speed, don't put a dime into the rear. If it's an A4 ,I would set a $500 budget. Nice girdle/cover with a stud kit, Moser axles, solid pinion spacer, and then you still have to worry about the diff and gear set. Torsens seem to hold up pretty decent. The fact that the axle tubes are pressed in is also a weak point. I considered trussing mine but then said **** it, I'm to lazy. Also, if your switching gear sets it might be worth it to pick up a used 2 series carrier so you can use the thicker style gear set. Might give you a better chance at having a 3.73 or 4.10 set last.

My car in my sig just distroyed the rear end. Only performance I have it the TB bypass and the lid. It destroyed the axles and axle bearings. ring/pinion are ok. At 19,5xx it is the luck of the draw. I have seen ss/ws6 go low11 and high 10 on a 7.5 with only a gear change nothing else, not even a cover. I guess it all depends on how lucky you are.
