increase trap speed with 4.11s
how much did your trap speed increase in the 1/4 after your 4.11 gear swap?
i got 3.73s now, 115 trap, M6, do you think it'll increase with 4.11s?

i guess your car is topped out at the quarter? it is not still accelerating?

the 4.11 will get you off the line faster and lower your et. you may or may not gain trap speed though. it depends on if the 4.11 let your motor rev at a more ideal rate than the 3.73

Here is an interesting artical out of Hot Rod Magazine in July of 2001. It is an artical on a school who makes modifications to a stock LS1 camaro and documents its changes step by step with results. The engine mods gave the car increased MPH, gearing only droped ET, Here is the link

You will see they were getting 12.78 at 111.3 with 3.73's and after installing 4.10's and a clutch they got a 12.28 (exactly 1/2 a second quicker) at 112.0... less than 1mph difference between 3.73 and 4.10 with a 1/2 second improvement.
A general rule of thumb is that HP and vehical weight determine trap speed, a good example of this are online HP calculators like this one..

those are the simple factors. As you know torque is what pushes from a dead stop and gets it going. Gearing only multiplies torque. Horsepower is what pulls the car through the traps, thats why HP will have the greatest effect on top speed.
Of course with a greater jump in ratio difference, different shifting, different traction, different air there will always be minor variations in ET and trap speed which we all know, dont look for anything but the slightest gains in MPH in the 1/4 mile going from 3.73 to 4.10. I agree that there won't really be a difference in trap speed by swapping the aforementioned gears. I went from 3.42s to 4.10s as a bolt-on car, and although my highest traps were acheived with the 4.10s, it wasn't that much of a diff, mid-high 112s w/3.42s to low 113s w/4.10s, and that's a bigger step than your going with the 3.73to 4.11 swap.

for me im going with some 3.73's because at the end of the 1/4 im at 4400 rpm. my peak power is at 5400 rpm. which means im not in my peak powerband in third. im thinking with the gear i can get in my powerband more and lower et and increase mph(though not by much).

With my stock 3:42's I would trap 118-119 w/ a 2.0 60 ft. Now with my 4:10's and same 60 ft. I trap 116......No other changes were made to the car......Food for thought

12.69@109 with headers and tune/ stock 3.23s
12.30@113 adding 4.10s, ls6 intake, and cutout, never felt a thing from the intake and cutout. also knocked my 60ft down to a 1.85 from low 1.9s.

My dad's 6spd 02 firehawk felt like a whole different car from 3.42s to 4.30s.
I dont' see how you couldn't gain atleast 3mph from gears.

Trust me guys if you take the same car, 6 speed, and go from 3.42s to 4.10s with equal driving, all other mods the same, and the same weather your traps will be virtually unchanged. I have countless passes with 3.42s AND 4.10s while I had just bolt-ons to back this up, and I also kept track of DA everytime I went.

Im curious to see what my car does with the 4.30's. WHen I run it next spring it will have an LS6 intake, and a 9" with 4.30's for the changes. Last year I would bog every time with the 3.42's and nittos. I ran 12.7@111 with a 2.0 60'. I hoping to trap 113ish and maybe touch an 11. Raceweight will be the same if not a little lighter this year.
